In Waldeinsamkeit

Poet: Karl von Lemcke

Set by: Johannes Brahms

I sat at your feet

in forest solitude;

The wind’s breath, longing,

went through the broad treetops.

In silent struggle I sank

my head in your lap.

My trembling hand

around your  knee I closed.

The sun went down,

The day glowed out.

Far, far, far away

sang a nightingale.
